With the launch of Splatoon 2 coming up on July 21, Switch owners across the world are eagerly-anticipating the next entry in this modern-day classic series. The game has had a couple of testfires, but the first Splatoon 2 Splatfest can be downloaded now and will be playable on July 15. It will pit cake against ice cream in an all-out war of paint and splatting. For newcomers, it’s a chance to get familiar with the series and for veterans, it’s a chance to try the game out with Switch hardware.
There will only be a four hour window with which to enjoy the online splatfest though – so clear some time off your schedule if you can. As it stands, you can at least play the Splatfest and try out the aiming mechanics. The basic tutorial teaches you the revamped controls on the Joycons, and they’re fairly similar to what they were on the Gamepad. It is a bit easier to get the hang of camera movement now though, as it’s easier to move this around than it was the whole Gamepad on the Wii U. The graphical quality of the paint on the ground also looks far better.
