8BitDo’s Bluetooth Controllers Updated to Support Switch

8Bitdo is known for making some outstanding bluetooth controllers inspired by SNES and NES controllers of days gone by – and they have just received new firmware updates. These updates allow them to not only work for Windows, MacOS, Android and Steam, but also the Switch. 8Bitdo’s new 4.0 firmware allows their controllers to act like a Pro Controller – only without Home and Screenshot buttons and no amiibo or motion sensors.

While this means that they won’t be 100% replacements for the $70 Pro Controller, they are still an excellent alternative for those seeking something for 2D platformers like Shovel Knight or for games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe that would benefit from a SNES-style layout and also benefit from an analog stick. Potential virtual console games would probably be best with the SNES-style ones, while those wanting a little bit of everything should get the NES-style ones with a SNES face button layout and twin sticks. You can get 8bitdo’s products on either Amazon or InnexInc, with Amazon probably being the easiest route to go.
